Democrat Looks Strong In Massachusetts

When the President appointed John Kerry to be Secretary of State, some people (including me) thought it might be an opportunity for the GOP to snatch Kerry's senate seat in a special election (as they were able to do when Ted Kennedy's seat was vacant). But it's starting to look like those worries were unfounded. Two new polls show Democrat Ed Markey with a comfortable lead over Republican Gabriel Gomez -- with only a couple of weeks to go before the election. Here are the latest numbers:

UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS POLL
Likely Voters
Markey...............51%
Gomez...............40%

Registered Voters
Markey...............47%
Gomez...............37%

PUBLIC POLICY POLLING
Markey...............47%
Gomez...............39%
