Don't get me wrong, I think Amarillo is a nice place to live and I have enjoyed living here for nearly four years now. The people are nice, and the city is large enough to have most anything you'd want without the overcrowding, slums and traffic problems of larger cities. But a Spring Break destination -- who would have guessed?
But evidently someone thinks that may be the case. The Amarillo Police Department has announced that they will be placing extra officers on patrol during Spring Break. These extra officers will be looking for drivers impaired by the use of alcohol (a common Spring Break occurrence among young people). To pay for these extra officers on patrol, the department has received a $25,000 grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.
So all of you college students waiting to flock to Amarillo for Spring Break partying and hijinks, be forewarned. The police are prepared for your drunken onslaught to this Spring Break mecca.
(For those of you unfamiliar with Amarillo, I've provided above an ariel view of this hot new Spring Break destination.)
Sounds like a waste of texas tax dollars during a time of budgetary crisis.
