Depends on the fairytale and the interpretation of the parent. I love the idea of fantasy, the ability to overcome obstacles and slay dragons. But many fairy tales had the young feminist me disgruntled. More writers today are writing tales in which girls/women are taking active roles and not waiting for the prince to rescue them or kiss them awake.
But that is a minor quibble. Your point is well-taken.
