This will probably surprise some people, but it shouldn't. Keeping the social contract doesn't do any harm to a country -- it strengthens that country. The best economies are those in which every citizen can share in the country's wealth.
the money that is put into the hands of the needy ultimately finds its way back into the economy and always has. now that corporate welfare, that's another story all together. after all, how in the world would all those off shore banks survive without it. we need to cut the subsidies to big business and put the dollars where they can be used to keep a strong and healthy nation.
