What Did Israel Accomplish Invading Lebanon ?

Once again, Georgie proves he must live on a different planet than the rest of us. Yesterday, Georgie declared that Hezbollah had been defeated in the Lebanon conflict. Was he even watching the same war? Israel invaded Lebanon, saying they would not leave until Hezbollah was destroyed and their captured soldiers were released. Israel is now withdrawing, and neither goal has been accomplished.

Hezbollah was firing rockets right up to the deadline for the cease-fire. Obviously, their capability to attack Israel is still viable. Throughout the Mideast, Hezbollah is much more popular than they have ever been. Their stout defense in the face of the Israeli invasion has made them heroes. Far from being destroyed, Hezbollah exits this war stronger than ever, and with much more support.

So, what did Israel accomplish? About the only thing I can see they got, was a lot of bad press. The world saw Israel do many things that are considered morally wrong. Israel didn't seem to care how many innocent civilians it killed. They killed several times as many civilians as combatants. In fact, they killed more children than Hezbollah soldiers. The world also saw Israel target a UN outpost, and drop leaflets telling civilians to leave & then bomb them as they complied. Israel also lost its aura of invincibility, when they were unable to fully defeat Hezbollah, which doesn't have near the weaponry or manpower or training that the Israelis have.

If this is what victory looks like to Georgie, then it is no wonder that Iraq has turned into such a mess. Whether he wants to admit it or not, Israel did not win anything but bad publicity.
