What Happened To The Road Money We Approved ?

All right! I'm starting to get steamed now! Last Spring, Tarrant County held a bond election totaling several hundred million dollars. Several items were included in the bond proposal such as a new jail and crime lab, but at the time, we were told that it also included money for county street improvements, INCLUDING I-35W.

For those of you unfamiliar with Fort Worth and Tarrant County, I-35W is the main north-south freeway. It has only two lanes going each way, and is continually being jammed up with far more traffic than it was built to carry. It has needed to be widened to four lanes each way for a while now. I believe that one reason the huge bond proposal passed so easily, is that people were told it included improvements on I-35W and Loop 820.

Now, reading the Star-Telegram, I learn that Texas Dept. of Transportation and local officials are ready to widen the freeway, but say they have no funds. They are floating an idea to make the two new lanes into TOLL LANES. They have called for a public meeting tomorrow, October 5th at 7:00pm at the Region XI Education Service Center at 3001 North Freeway in Fort Worth, where they will lay out the plans.

Before I even listen to plans for a ridiculous toll road, I want to know what happened to the money we approved for this in the enormous bond proposal? And if the money wasn't meant for this, then why were we lied to before the vote on the bond package? Somebody's got a lot of explaining to do. Once again, Tarrant County is getting screwed by the state and local Republicans.
