10 Month-Old Gets Gun Permit

Any Illinois resident that wants to purchase or possess a firearm must get a firearm permit. The Illinois State Police say the purpose of the permit is to keep guns out of the hands of "convicted felons, those under an order of protection and those convicted of domestic violence".

But I have to wonder just how well the system is working. An Illinois father just applied for a gun permit for his 10 month-old infant son, listing his height as 2' 3" and his weight as 20 lbs. The state of Illinois issued the permit!

The child's father did it as a joke because the grandfather of the baby just bought the baby a shotgun (which he will get to use when he's 14). The father never dreamed the state would actually issue the permit, but they did. It seems the law doesn't have an age limit for gun permits.

Evidently, it is perfectly legal for a 10 month-old to own a gun in Illinois. All he has to do is pay $5 for the permit. (The picture above is the actual child who received the gun permit.)

Maybe Illinois should reconsider the age thing. Imagine what elementary school will be like once the six and seven year-olds hear about this.
