Every now and then, the Texas Legislature does something that makes me proud. I found this short post at Ft. Worth Star Telegram's website:

AUSTIN — The Texas Legislature is ready for President Bush to hit the road. Well, sort of. The Senate signed off on a House measure Thursday that would set in place plans to take down the highway signs that read, “Welcome to Texas, proud to be the home of President George W. Bush,” once Bush leaves office. But like the rest of the nation, the state is willing to wait until Jan. 20, 2009, the day the next president will take office.
House Bill 693, which now awaits Gov. Rick Perry’s signature or his veto pen, also provides that the Texas Department of Transportation may re-inaugurate the “proud to be the home of” signs if and when Texas sends another one of its own to the White House.
The only improvement I can see to this law would be to make it effective immediately. These signs have been an embarrassment for years.
