Bush Threatens Veto Of Wiretapping Bill

Congressional Democrats are actually trying to give Bush another wiretapping bill. I don't know why, but they are. But Bush is not happy with it. He's threatening now to veto the bill if it's not written the way he wants it.

Before they left last August, Congress passed a wiretapping bill that granted the federal government the power to eavesdrop on conversations without even asking for a warrant. The government was granted this power even if an American was on one end of the conversation. The only saving grace for this terrible bill was that it expires after six months.

Bush wants the Democrats to extend the bill and also strengthen it. He not only wants the right to eavesdrop on the conversations of Americans without a warrant, he want retroactive immunity for the telecommunications companies that help him do it. He now says if they don't give him everything he wants, he'll veto the bill.

I don't think he will. If he vetos what they offer him, he could well get nothing at all -- and that's just what should happen.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING DEMOCRATS? Don't extend this bill -- not even in a weakened form! Let the damn law die a natural death.

Our forefathers knew what they were doing when they made it so the government needed a warrant to invade the privacy of American citizens. They knew that no government could be trusted with that kind of power.

It's time for Democrats to grow a spine and stand up for the Constitution and freedom. Kill this bill now!
