Where Does Bush Find These Incompetents ?

Maybe it's that birds of a feather flock together, but our incompetent president seems to have a knack for nominating other incompetents to important government posts. Remember "Brownie" and FEMA?

Now he's done it again. In 2006, Bush nominated Julie Myers to be the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her major qualification seems to be that she is married to Michael Chertoff's former Chief of Staff and she's the neice of former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Richard Myers.

Her nomination was held up because many senators questioned whether she had enough experience for the important post as head of a division of Homeland Security. So Bush waited for a recess and put her in the job anyway (just like he did with Bolton). Last January, Bush re-nominated her for the post.

But it looks like the senators may have been right the first time. She has recently shown a serious lack of judgement that makes it look like she's not the right person for such an important government job.

At a department Halloween party last week, one of her employees showed up dressed in prisoner's garb with dreadlocks and his face and skin blackened. Does she tell him the costume is offensive and discipline him? No. Ms. Myers praised the costume for it's originality and had her picture taken with the man.

Only days later, after complaints from others about the costume being offensive, did she come to her senses. In an effort to protect herself, she has now disciplined the employee and destroyed the pictures. Her actions at the party show her to be pretty insensitive. Is this the kind of person we want in charge of immigration -- a job that demands sensitivity to many different races, cultures and religions?

The senate has not shown that it can stand up to Bush, so this woman will probably be confirmed in spite of her insensitivity and incompetence, but she shouldn't be.

Obviously, being a Bush supporter is the only qualification necessary for government service in this administration.
