There Won't Be A "Dream Ticket"

In recent weeks, I have heard many people talking about how they like both Obama and Clinton, and they wish they could both be on the same ticket. Now in an effort to boost her failing bid for the presidential nomination, Clinton and her husband have both been inferring lately that Obama should join her as the veep candidate on a "dream ticket".

The idea is patently ridiculous, and shows Clinton's growing desperation. Just a few days ago, she was telling us that Obama is not qualified to be president, and now she wants to put him a heartbeat away from it. That makes no sense.

It also doesn't make sense that a candidate that is clearly losing, and has very little chance of finishing anywhere but in second place, would offer second-billing to the candidate who is winning. Obama has a clear lead in delegates.

The Associated Press has Obama with 1578 delegates and Clinton with 1472 delegates. There is no chance she can catch up without the superdelegates trumping the pledged delegates -- and I don't think they can or will do that. It would call into question the party's commitment to fairness.

Obama also leads in the number of states won, and in the total popular vote. The only way this "dream team" concept would work is with Clinton as the second-banana, and that ain't gonna happen. I don't think he would offer it, and I don't think she would accept it.

As Obama told a crowd yesterday, "I don't want anyone here thinking that somehow, 'Well, you know, maybe I can get both.' Don't think that way. You have to make a choice in this election."

Get it out of your mind, folks. There won't be a ticket with both of them on it.
