Wise County Elects Racist Constable

If you're a minority, especially a Hispanic, it might be a good idea to avoid going to Wise County, Texas. The citizens of that county, located just north of Fort Worth, have just replaced a 16-year veteran Democratic constable with a racist Republican.

The new Republican constable, Tom Bishop, runs a hate-filled anti-Obama website that questions whether Barack Obama is even an American. The website also links to an anti-immigration video from a racist Virginia-based organization. Bishop is also a member of the racist anti-immigrant organization called the Minutemen. He has participated in their armed patrols of the southern border of the United States.

I call him and the organization racist because they don't seem to care about white immigrants crossing our northern border -- only brown ones crossing our southern border. It is believed that Bishop wanted the constable position to give himself a legal framework for harassing immigrants. But since it is virtually impossible to tell a Hispanic citizen from an illegal immigrant, it can be expected that Bishop will probably randomly harass all Hispanics.

Why on earth would the citizens of Wise County elect such a man? Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist Bud Kennedy attributes it to straight-ticket voting by Wise County Republicans. But I suspect it goes further than that.

As the 16-year veteran constable who was replaced says, "I’ve had people from my church, from the schools, from every walk of life say they couldn’t vote for any Democrats this year. They’re my friends, but they voted straight Republican. People here are just not going to accept some things. Now, they’ve got the president they didn’t want and a constable they won’t want."

In other words, much of that straight-ticket voting was a vote against a party headed by an African-American. It was a racist vote. Now that racist vote has gotten them a racist constable. I can't help but believe they've gotten exactly what they wanted (and probably deserve).

But if I was African-American or Hispanic, I think I'd avoid Wise County.

  1. Isn't Wise County that one that was known for their "truck stop rest area" where one could get a quickie BJ....

...with the full knowledge and apparently approval of local law enforcement?

    I think it was.

    Just saying...

    :)

  2. The truck stop deal was decades ago! That said, as a Wise County resident, there's not much I can defend about the place. =(

  3. I live in Wise County... the only reason this maniac got elected is because nearly everyone in this county voted straight-ticket this year. This is really scary that this man is going to be out prowling around with a gun and a badge! If you look at his website, you'd think with all the qualifications he lists for himself that some agency somewhere would just be begging for his services... yet they DON'T. Wise County is in for trouble, no doubt.

  6. Check out this blog thefirebombing.blogspot.com. There are more reasons than racism to avoid Wise County. Looks like Tom Bishop is a child molester, too.

  7. Well, he chased a wrong-way drive 5MILES into Tarrant County rather than call for the police. There are now two dead. The wrong-way-driver and the woman driver hit. Way to go Tom Bishop . . . you're playing Barney Fife.

  8. if you are hispanic and don't like wise county get the hell out. no one invited you here in the first place.
quit trying to impose your lifestyle on us. a lot of places in the u.s. hispanics are seamlessly integrated in our society but in wise county the hispanics are in your face with your cultural differences and a lack of respect for the people that were there before you.

  9. Steve-
You really should read some history books before displaying your ignorance. Hispanics were in Texas for hundreds of years before whites were. Maybe you should show some respect.

  11. Wow Steve, if that is the case then we need to pack up and leave as Texas was taken from the Hispanics and Indians. Remember the Alamo, and Texas history talks about filibustering. Maybe Steve needs to go back to school again, before making ignorant comments!
