These are the same kinds of conversations that blame working families for having the gall to take out mortgages so they could own homes of their own, without mentioning the fundamental question, "Who gave the banker barons a divine right to charge enormous interest rates that would have been considered usurious and illegal a generation ago?"
Maybe the pundits and chatterers can't see the reason that the robber barons of banking and the Wall Street aristocrats did what they did to us and will continue doing it as long as we let them. But down here we know the reason. The answer lies in one simple word and it is easy to spell: GREED.
America is a country full of resources and packed with mighty productive people, the good people that centuries of republican democracy have produced. Millions of good Americans whose families hail from every corner of the planet have invested untold vast quantities of hard work, good will, and sacrifice, a lot of it for free through chattel slavery, to create a good society peopled by good people. If you're anything like me, you're sick and tired of the Wall Street robber barons and banker aristocracy getting away with ruining this good thing through the unchecked exercise of their rapacious GREED.
Maybe we can't flush greed completely out of the human psyche, but we damn sure can use our laws and our power of self-government to protect us from its ravages. We have a lot of power down here at the ground level if we realize it and use it; in fact all the sovereign power in our democratic republic is anchored right down here in our collective hands.
So let me ask you, good friends: Do you think we the people down here at the ground level can do more to fight back against the reign of greed? Or do you think all that can be done is already being done? If not, what do you think we can do better or more of to fight back and WIN? Write me back.
Sincerely,
David Van Os
