The "Nanny State" Strikes Again
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has decided that it knows what is best for you, regardless of what you might want. They want to fix it legally so that you can only eat what they think is "good for you". Evidently they think Americans are too stupid to make their own decisions.
A New Jersey man, in conjunction with CSPI, has filed suit against Denny's Restaurant chain. They claim that Denny's food has too much salt in it, and that the high-salt menu poses a safety risk for Denny's customers. They want to force the chain of 1500 restaurants to list the salt content in their foods and warn their customers that the food may be dangerous for them to consume.
They have also petitioned the Food and Drug Administration to classify salt as a food additive, rather than a harmless ingredient. This would make it easier to force food establishments to limit the amount of salt in their food.
Denny's has said the suit is frivilous. They say, "With hundreds of items on the menu, Denny’s offers a wide variety of choices for consumers with different lifestyles, understanding that many have special dietary needs."
I have to agree with Denny's on this matter, and I hope the court throws this lawsuit out. If these people don't want to eat at Denny's, then they shouldn't eat there. But they don't have the right to force their opinion of the other 300 million Americans. This is supposed to be a free country where people are free to make their own decisions.
If these nuts want to communicate with Americans about their views, that is fine. They should purchase advertising time or send mail-outs or arrange a news conference -- whatever non-invasive means they want to do. But when they go to court to try and force their views on other people, they have stepped way over the line.
It's none of their business what I choose to eat, or if I use too much salt on or in that food. And it doesn't matter if that's not "healthy". It's still my right to make my own decisions, and I'm not willing to give up that right.

ReplyDeleteROFL, how could you type that with a straight face? The cognitive dissonance here is astounding!!
Free to make their own decisions, unless they decide to choose their own healthcare, own a gun, drive an old car, live in an old house, listen to what they want on the radio, and a lot more anti-freedom positions that you and other progressives have taken.
Just because I give my opinion on some of those things doesn't mean I'm trying to deny you anything.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you read this blog anyway?
Obviously just to misunderstand it and mock you.
