Texas Certainly Doesn't Need This !

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) has long been an embarrassment to the Lone Star State and a big impediment to cleaning up the environment and solving the world's problem with global climactic change. He recently showed his idiocy with the statement, "CO2 isn't harmful...It's in your Coca-Cola."

Having long ago been bought off by the oil, coal and power industries, he has earned his nickname, "Smokey Joe", by continuing to push the use of carbon-based fuels and refusing to admit they cause any environmental damage.

Many Texans had hoped the rumors of his impending retirement were true. But the political gods are not kind to the state of Texas. Now it appears that he is considering a run for the soon-to-be-vacated senate seat of Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Barton's spokesman, Sean Brown says, "Congressman Barton continues to watch the developments in Texas politics with an interested eye. He believes serving the entire state of Texas as their next senator would be an honor. If and when an opportunity presents itself, he will discuss it with his wife, family and supporters before making any decision."

If he does decide to run, he will join these fellow Republicans, who are already in the race -- former Secretary of State Roger Williams, Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams, Texas Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones and state Sen. Florence Shapiro. While none of this crew would make a decent senator, Barton probably does have the best name-recognition of any of them.

Just think, Texas could send John Cornyn and Joe Barton to the United States Senate. That's not just embarrassing -- it's horrifying!
