Unlucky Or Stupid ?

Eighteen year-old Alonzo Rucker is either one of the stupidest criminals ever, or one of the unluckiest. Either way, he should probably find a new line of work. Crime doesn't seem to be his forte.

Rucker entered Quotes Bar & Grill in Janesville, Wisconsin, with the intention to rob it last Sunday night. His face was covered with a bandanna, and he had his hand in his pocket as though he had a gun. The only thing amiss was his timing.

You see, that was the weekend of the Janesville police golf tournament, and officers from across the state had come to play in the tournament. Many of them were having a last get-together in the bar before returning home. In fact, the bar was full of police officers.

Bartender Joe Collins said, "I heard someone yell, 'You gotta be kidding me' from this end of the bar. I turned around in time to see them grabbed a masked man and put him down to the ground."

The young man said he was just wearing the mask so no one would recognize him, and he really wasn't trying to do a robbery. I doubt if that story's going to fly in court. Janesville Deputy Police Chief Steve Kopp said, "You think of, you know, those stories that you hear of the stupid criminals and that sort of thing. I think this ranks up with those."

I think the Deputy Chief is right.
