This is a female Ardipithecus ramidus (nicknamed Ardi). She lived about 4.4 million years ago, and we are probably direct descendants of her kind. She was about four feet tall and weighed about 110 pounds (and males were approximately the same size). She was a good climber, and probably spent about half her life in trees. But on the ground, she walked upright just like modern humans.
