What do you think? Is it a crude slam at christianity? Or is it a creative and metaphorical plea to highlight the sad plight of apes in the wild? The artist doesn't say.
I imagine, like most works of art, much of the meaning will be supplied by the viewer. True art touches us, either positively or negatively, and provokes a response. Personally, I like this piece of art. It speaks to me both on religion and the environment.
I fully expect many American fundamentalists will hate the piece, and consider it to be blasphemous. It is interesting though that it is being exhibited in a church.
What do you think? Is it creative art or just blasphemy?
