It's what I would call the "Ted Kennedy effect."

Political parties need bogeymen (or in this case, "bogeywomen") to energize the base. It's always easier to be against someone than to be for someone, especially when there's a dirth of leadership in your own party.

Ted Kennedy played the role of bogeyman for the Republicans for years. I once remember getting a solicitation from the RNC for a contribution (at least I assume that's what is was). On the outside of the envelope, it said, "If you want Ted Kennedy to be happy, DON'T open this envelope!"

I threw it away without even opening it.

Just a friendly bit of advice from the Right side of the political spectrum: Don't raise your ire (or your blood pressure) over someone who, like Ted Kennedy, will probably never get her party's nomination for President anyway. If she does, you can cross that bridge when you get there. In the meantime, attacking Palin only energizes her supporters even more by turning her into a "victim."

Instead, find someone on your side in whom you believe (be it Barack Obama or someone else) and accentuate the positive. Life's too short to dwell on the negative.
