I am thankful that people still want to come to our country. As long as they attempt to speak the language and assimilate themselves into society like these brave boat people did, I'm all for it!
But these "Boat People" did NOT attempt to speak the language or assimilate themselves into the existing society. Instead, they and their ancestors imposed their own language, religion and culture on those who welcomed them and helped them.
