My point is that just as there are Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Moslem, Buddhist...and Atheist Democrats (and Republicans, for that matter), there obviously were Catholic Nazis, some of whom were in the clergy. At least six of them, if we're to believe the picture that Yellowdog Granny posted (and I have no reason not to).
Were the Nazis Atheists? Of course they were. Just not all of the them.
The Nazis were Atheists. The Nazis were Catholics. The Nazis were Protestants. The Nazis were Occultists.
But most of all, the Nazis believed in Nazism. Which meant that anyone whose religious persuasion compelled them to oppose Nazism were considered fair game.
I'm curious - Do you know of any atheists who were martyred by the Nazis for their atheism? I'm not saying there were none; I'm just not familiar with any.
Without going into research mode, I would suspect that many of the German communists were atheists -- many of whom were imprisoned or outright murdered.
I know that many christians would like for everyone to believe that all of history's bad men were atheists, but it just isn't true. There were some of course -- Stalin would be a prime example. But Hitler and many of his henchmen were not. Most claimed to be christian.
ANONYMOUS COMMENTS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED. And neither will racist, homophobic, or misogynistic comments. I do not mind if you disagree, but make your case in a decent manner.

ReplyDeleteThere's also a group within the pro-life movement called Atheist and Agnostic Pro-Life League.

An example of this on the Protestant side was Dietrich Bonhoeffer. On the Catholic side, there's Maximilian Kolbe.
