It's finally that time -- time to vote. In a representative democracy, the most important thing a citizen can do is vote. It is by voting that we select those who will govern us for the next couple of years. And only a fool would think that government doesn't affect his or her life. Government on all levels affects nearly every aspect of our lives -- including taxes, defense, police and fire protection, jobs (or the lack of them), level of pay, benefits, medical quality and insurance, roads and bridges, laws and regulations, food safety, work safety, national defense, and a ton of other things.
If you're a regular reader of this blog then you know I recommend voting for progressive candidates (mostly Democrats). But regardless of which end of the political spectrum you are on or which party you belong to (Democrat, Republican, Third Party, or Independent), I urge you to go to the polls and vote. It is not only important, it is your duty as a citizen of this country.
Democracy works best when all citizens participate. Go to the polls and vote your conscience. Then pop some popcorn, get your favorite beverage and watch the results. It'll be a good show.
But after it's all over, remember one thing -- regardless of party or where we are on the political spectrum, we are all Americans. We are not enemies and the world will not end if the party we didn't vote for wins. We all love this country and want the best for our fellow citizens.
And we'll do it again in a couple of years. If your candidates win tonight, congratulations. If not, then try again in 2012. But whatever you do -- VOTE!!!
voted and took two to the polls ..so I'm good for 3 votes.
