American Teachers Overpaid ?

Republican politicians across the country seem to be convinced that teachers are overpaid and should have their salaries cut (or have their class sizes substantially increased so fewer teachers are employed). Both ideas are ludicrous. The above chart shows the United States does not rank highly in teacher pay -- either for new or experienced teachers. From the blog Pharyngula. How can the Republicans justify putting the future of this country in jeopardy by cutting teacher pay, while at the same time giving more and more money to the rich?

    Depends on where you live. Teachers here on LI are ridiculously overpaid. And they all cry poverty. But they have one of the highest starting salaries of any jobs available on Long Island.

    Teachers do a lot of work on their own time. We don't need to go backward and under pay our teachers.
