Troubles Grow For Rupert Murdoch

Rupert Murdoch and his "news" organizations have always ignored ethics and truth in favor of slanting the news to favors Murdoch's right-wing political views. So I guess it should come as no surprise that they have ignored laws as easily as they have the rules of good journalism. Many progressives have suspected as much for a while now.

It has been revealed in the last few weeks that Murdoch's organization in England has been hacking the personal phones of those he considered political enemies -- even people as highly placed as Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the Queen of England (and that takes some hutzpah). The illegal activity has already resulted in the closing of Murdoch's News of the World -- an English right-wing rag disguised as a newspaper. And it could do further damage there to his media empire.

Now it looks like the Murdoch empire's illegal activities might not be restricted to the European side of the Atlantic Ocean. A former New York police officer now working as a private investigator is saying that Murdoch's people tried to get him to hack the phones of the survivors of 9/11 victims. And the FBI has admitted it is investigating those charges.

Making it even more likely that the charges are real is the fact that some right-wing politicians are now trying to distance themselves from Murdoch. Rep. Peter King (R-New York), a rabid right-winger and islam-hater who has appeared on Fox News (a Murdoch entity) many times, is one of the people calling for the investigation.

There are those who believe Murdoch could be prosecuted for the British crimes (since his corporate headquarters is in the U.S.). He really didn't need to be found to be breaking any more of this country's laws -- especially something as disgraceful as hacking the phones of 9/1 families.

Could Murdoch be kicked out of his own corporate media empire? Could he go to jail for the corporate improprieties? Is Fox News involved in the wrongdoing? Could we be witnessing the beginning of the crumbling of this right-wing media empire? We can only hope all of those are true.

After all the damage Murdoch's sleazy media empire has done to both England and America, maybe the buzzards are coming home to roost (at News Corp.).
