Occupy Amarillo Has Successful March

Yesterday Occupy Amarillo held its first event -- a march from Ellwood Park to the Chase Tower downtown. After marching around the Chase Tower a couple of times chanting, the group got together across the street and discussed issues. Among the issues discussed were unemployment, worker's rights and corporate ownership of the federal government. It was generally decided that another event would be scheduled for around November 5th.

I have to admit that in the last few days I have worried about whether a decent crowd would come, and whether anyone would show up besides a few young people. I need not have worried. There were between 70 and 80 people there and they represented all age groups and several races. There was no trouble at all, either from the crowd or passersby. In fact, most motorists passing the March waved and gave a thumbs up sign indicating their approval  of the march. And other than to drive by a couple of times, the police did not interfere at all.

It was a good turnout for a city as red as Amarillo, and I think there will probably be an even larger crowd at the next event. The above pictures are of the event, and show:
1. We even had toddlers with signs.
2. And a goat also.
3. The gathering crowd waiting for the march to start.
4. The march heads out of the park.
5. And crosses the street.
6. Arrival at the Chase Tower.
