Bachmann Is Still trying To Re-Write History

Michele Bachmann, the wild-eyed teabagger queen and Republican presidential candidate, has never been one to care about accuracy -- about facts or history. She knows that telling the Republican teabagger base what they want to hear will get her a lot further than telling them the truth. As we have seen in the past, she just makes up things as she goes along, whether its about American history, the economy, or President Obama.

And she's still doing it. Just a couple of days ago (10/28/11) she was being interviewed by CNN's Wolf Blitzer and she made the following completely irrational statement. She said:

"Under Barack Obama's watch, we have expended $805 billion to liberate the people of Iraq and, more importantly, 4400 American lives. . .He's been a disaster on foreign policy."

That's not even remotely near the truth. President Obama didn't start the war in Iraq, George Bush did that. And it was a completely unnecessary war, since Iraq had no weapons of mass destructions, would not allow al-Queda operate in the country, and posed no danger at all to the United States. The Iraq war was a foreign policy disaster, but it was Bush's foreign policy disaster.

What President Obama did was to end Bush's huge mistake. But truth be told, he didn't end it immediately upon taking the oath of office. So I guess President Obama has to take credit for the last three years of the Iraq war, while George Bush must get the blame for the first six years of that nine year war. The total spending on that war has come to $805.5 billion, which means George Bush must take credit for 67%, or about $540 billion. President Obama can only be blamed for 33%, or about $265 billion.

If Bachmann wants to blame someone for wasting money in Iraq, Bush is a far better candidate -- since he was responsible for twice the spending than President Obama did. But the money, as important as wasting billions of dollars is, is not nearly as important as the American lives wasted on that stupid and unnecessary war -- and the loss of most of those lives must be credited to Bush (and his cohort, Dick Cheney).

So far, there have been 4,482 American soldiers killed in Iraq. But only a small portion of them, about 261 (or 5.8%), were killed in 2009, 2010, or 2011 -- after President Obama assumed office. All of the rest, about 4,621 (over 94%), happened while George Bush was still in office (and most of those after he declared "mission accomplished").

Bachmann's statement was not just disingenuous -- it was an outrageous bald-faced lie. She must think the American people are incredibly stupid to try and blame the heinous actions of Bush/Cheney on the current president. But like I said, she's never cared much about truth.
