The right-wing fundamentalists in the United States like to think of themselves as victims. They believe the christian religion is under attack. The chart above, from the excellent blog
Thurman's Notebook, shows that is just silly. Christianity is by far the most dominant religion in the country. What they perceive as an attack is simply an effort to try and keep them from forcing their religion on others who want no part of it.
A lot of these people are just deluded paranoid fools who love to persecute those who are not just like they are.
ReplyDeleteThis is particularly in evidence at this time of year with their outraged shrieking about the so-called "War On Christmas" - a wonderfully rich vein of irony for atheists and historians to mine while not actually giving a shit about who says "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays". It's all the same bullshit, year after year.
