Notorious Homophobe Crushes Wall Street Willie In Kansas

Saturday started off well for Wall Street Willie (aka Willard Mitt Romney). The American territories just across the International Date Line (Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands) gave him all 18 of their Republican delegates. He won the support of 100% of the slightly more than 200 caucus-goers in Guam and did nearly that well in the Northern Mariana Islands, where he won the support of 87% (while Santorum got 6%, Gingrich got 3%, and Paul got 3%).

But then the sun rose on the continental United States, and about 11:00 am CST the Republican voters in Kansas began to caucus -- and things quickly went downhill for Wall Street Willie. Evidently realizing the Republican Party has no solution for the nation's economic ills (except to give more money to rich people), the Kansas voters did what their neighbors in Oklahoma did -- they voted on the right-wing social agenda. That gave homophobe and misogynist Rick Santorum (Mr. Frothy) a huge advantage.

And Santorum cashed in on that advantage, winning the support of over 50% of the Kansas caucus-goers. In fact, Santorum more than doubled the second place vote of Romney, and will wind up with the most of the Kansas delegates. Here are the numbers:

KANSAS (100% reporting)
Rick Santorum...............15,290  (51.42%)
Mitt Romney...............6,250  (21.10%)
Newt Gingrich...............4,298  (14.45%)
Ron Paul...............3,767  (12.67%)
Others...............130  (0.44%)
TOTAL VOTES...............29,735

And here are the caucus votes from the Virgin Islands:

VIRGIN ISLANDS (100% reporting)
Uncommitted...............130  (33.85%)
Ron Paul...............112  (29.17%)
Mitt Romney...............101  (26.30%)
Rick Santorum...............23  (5.99%)
Newt Gingrich...............18  (4.69%)
TOTAL VOTES...............384

Meanwhile, there are two new polls for states that vote next Tuesday -- Alabama and Mississippi. The Alabama shows Gingrich and Romney in a dead heat for the lead, but the poll notes that Gingrich seems to be surging in that state while Romney and Santorum are fading. The Mississippi poll shows Romney in the lead, but after his crushing defeat in Kansas I'm just not sure that will hold up. Here are the numbers:

ALABAMA STATE UNIVERSITY POLL (Alabama)
Newt Gingrich...............20.7%
Mitt Romney...............20.2%
Rick Santorum...............16.7%
Others...............15.1%

RASMUSSEN POLL (Mississippi)
Mitt Romney...............35%
Rick Santorum...............27%
Newt Gingrich...............27%
Ron Paul...............6%
Other/Undecided...............5%
