The Sunflower State Gets Its Say

It's time for the state of Kansas to tell the Republican Party (and the four remaining candidates) who they would like to see win the GOP presidential nomination. Kansas is a caucus state, and the caucuses are scheduled to start about 11:00 am today. It is hoped they will be over around 2:00pm and the results reported between 5-6:00pm (those are Central Standard Times). Sounds good to me. I'm tired of waiting until the wee hours of the morning to get the final results from a state.

Kansas will send 40 delegates to the national convention -- and the odds are that Rick Santorum will get most of them. Three territories are also caucusing today. They are the Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam. Each of them will send 9 delegates to the convention. I don't have a clue as to which candidate is favored in those territories. I haven't seen any polls on either Kansas or the territories -- I am just assuming Kansas will vote similar to it's neighbor, Oklahoma (where Santorum did very well).

Then next Tuesday, Alabama and Mississippi will hold their primaries. Hawaii and American Samoa will caucus on that day. Alabama has 50 delegates, Mississippi has 40 delegates, Hawaii has 20 delegates, and American Samoa has 9 delegates. Here are the latest polls:

AMERICAN RESEARCH GROUP POLL (Mississippi)
Newt Gingrich...............35%
Mitt Romney...............31%
Rick Santorum...............20%
Ron Paul...............7%
Undecided...............7%

RASMUSSEN POLL (Alabama)
Newt Gingrich...............30%
Rick Santorum...............29%
Mitt Romney...............28%
Ron Paul...............7%
Other/Undecided...............7%
