The primary season continues with Willard Mitt Romney (aka Wall Street Willie), even though he is the only candidate left in the Republican nomination race, still creeping toward finally having enough delegates to make him the official nominee. Last night two states held their primaries -- Kentucky and Arkansas. Romney won both states (not much of a feat since he has no opposition), but still is short of the delegates needed. He will probably go over the top in Texas next week. Here are the latest results:
KENTUCKY (99% reporting)
Mitt Romney...............117,396 (66.75%)
Ron Paul...............22,044 (12.53%)
Rick Santorum...............15,654 (8.90%)
Newt Gingrich...............10,445 (5.94%)
Others...............10,340 (5.88%)
TOTAL VOTES...............175,879
ARKANSAS (90% reporting)
Mitt Romney...............97,662 (68.25%)
Ron Paul...............19,240 (13.45%)
Rick Santorum...............19,202 (13.42%)
Newt Gingrich...............6,989 (4.88%)
Others...............0
TOTAL VOTES...............143,093
Note that although Romney is the only candidate in the race, more than 33% of Kentucky GOP voters and 31% of Arkansas GOP voters still voted against him. At least 30% of Republicans nationwide are unhappy with their candidate.
