The current jobless recession started during the administration of George W. Bush, and was caused by the "trickle-down" economic policies of the Republican Party. But since President Obama took office (in the midst of the Republican economic mess), the GOP has been trying to shift the blame for this jobless recession onto the president (and away from themselves, even though they still champion the same failed policies).
But President Obama is starting to fight back against the ludicrous Republican accusations. Here is some of what he told an audience in Baltimore recently:
"I love it when these guys talk about debt and deficits. I inherited a trillion dollar deficit."
"We signed two trillion dollars in spending cuts into law. Spending under my administration has grown more slowly than under any president in 60 years."
"They baked all this stuff into the cake with those tax cuts... and the war."
"It's like somebody goes to a restaurant, orders a big steak dinner, a martini and all that stuff, then just as you're sitting down they leave and accuse you of running up the tab."
"When I hear Gov. Romney say his 25 years in the private sector give him a special understanding of how the economy works, my question is, why are you running with the same bad ideas that brought our economy to the brink? Why he believes it will lead to a different result this time, although theres no evidence of that."
