It's pretty crazy... and also pretty unenforceable. If they ever tried to enforce the ban, it would be knocked down instantly... which is also the reason they'll never seek to enforce it.
Mississippi technically didn't ban slavery until 1992. Clearly, they could not have held a slave auction in 1985.
But it does tell you something about the political environment in those states...
And they are afraid they will be stopped by the government that breaks the constitution everyday by using unconstitutional torture, and by killing numerous people in countries we are not at war with.
