Define "better off." The middle class is smaller than it was four years ago, the average income of the middle class is lower, the number of people living in poverty is higher, the percentage of the population in the labor force is dramatically lower, the number of people unemployed with no unemployment benefits is enormously higher, inflation in food and energy is higher, gasoline prices are higher, and nothing has been done regarding climate change.
2.7 million people have gotten jobs, but that's less than 1% of the population who can say they are better off. Another 1%, the infamous 1% that is the target of "Occupy Wall Street" are certainly better off. I'd say the other 98% are unimpressed by that chart.
Rich people are better off. That's it. All those jobs pay less money and that money is worth less yet. I'll bet half or more of the people who got those jobs are applying for food stamps.
