Democrats Make It Official

I hear that Bill Clinton and Elizabeth Warren gave great speeches last night, following in the footsteps of Julian Castro and Michelle Obama. I wasn't able to hear those speeches myself, because I was doing what millions of other Americans were doing -- watching the Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Giants in the NFL opener (24-17). I'm sorry, but I'm a "homer" for my Cowboys and just had to watch the game (I probably deserve some lashes from a wet noodle!).

I guess it was only proper that the Democratic Convention have its own distraction, since the Republicans lost much of their coverage due to Hurricane Isaac. Both could have avoided those distractions by having their convention earlier, but that didn't happen. Maybe they'll both learn from this.

I did however, tune in to the convention in time to watch the roll call of the states. So I was watching when Democratic delegates made it official by re-nominating President Obama for a second term. I have not always agreed with the president, but I'm glad he is again the nominee of the Democratic Party (because frankly, his Republican opponent scares the hell out of me). I'm looking forward to hearing the president's acceptance speech tonight, and I hope he is re-elected in November -- and that voters send a bunch of new Democrats to Congress to help him next year.

  1. We were cheering for the same football team. I don't really like the Cowboys, but anyone from San Diego is going to be on the side of any team that's playing against Eli Manning. In case you don't know the history, we had the first draft choice and he said that he waould not play for the Chargers. We should not draft him because he would rather sit out of football for a year than play for the Chargers. Our GM worked a deal and we got Philip Rivers instead.

  2. Why does everyone ignore Ron Paul?

  3. Why should Democrats (or Independents) pay attention to Paul when his own political party ignores him?
