The following letter from "god" is from the very good blog called What Would Jack Do?. I thought it was excellent and decided to give it a repeat performance:
If you don't know, AA has a concept of "sponsors," that being a person that a newcomer picks as a mentor, a person to guide him through the AA program and help him in a personal way to achieve sobriety.
A guy I new did not feel the need to select a sponsor, claiming that he did not need to do do because he was a Christian. "I don't need a sponsor," he would say, "because, being a Christain, I can talk directly to God. You guys are not Christians, so you can's talk to God, and thus you need sponsors to talk to. But I'm a Christian, and I do my talking to God."
He could not comprehend why we saw that as arrogance.
