At the same meeting with rich friends and donors that he revealed how he despised 47% of all Americans, Willard Mitt Romney (aka Wall Street Willie) also had some things to say about the Hispanic vote -- and it sounds like he may be getting a little desperate. He told his rich buddies:
". . .we are having a much harder time with Hispanic voters, and if the Hispanic voting bloc becomes as committed to the Democrats as the African American voting block has in the past, why, we're in trouble as a party and, I think, as a nation."
Willard has good reason to be worried about the Hispanic vote. While they may not vote for the president in quite the same percentage that African-Americans will, poll after poll has shown the president has a huge lead among Hispanics. And a new Latino Decisions Poll shows that nothing has changed. Here are the latest numbers:
BOTH SEXES TOGETHER
Obama...............68%
Romney...............26%
WOMEN
Obama...............74%
Romney...............21%
MEN
Obama...............61%
Romney...............32%
Those are some pretty bad numbers. In 2008, McCain got about 31% of the Hispanic vote, and that wasn't enough to even get him close to the president. Willard is not even equaling McCain numbers. And to make matters worse, the survey showed that most Hispanics are enthused about voting in the coming election. If Romney is to have any chance of winning, he's going to have to get a huge percentage of the white vote, because he won't do well in the minority community -- and frankly, I don't think he can get a big enough percentage.
