That is an actual quote from Ronald Reagan, from a speech he gave in 1985. It shows just how far to the right the Republican Party has moved in the last few years. They are not just to the right of moderate Republicans of the past. They are to the right of true conservatives like former President Reagan (the politician they claim to adore and emulate). Reagan believed in tax fairness, and he believed the rich should pay a higher percentage in taxes than anyone else. That is not what the current GOP believes. They want to give massive new tax cuts to the rich, even though many of them (like Willard Mitt Romney) already pay a smaller percentage in taxes than much of the middle class.
I don't even know if "right" describes the direction, except in a relative sense. Both parties have moved "right"...but the Republicans? I swear, they are intent on setting up a new economic aristocracy and neo-feudalism.
