Unions / Middle Class
This is just to remind everyone that it was the union movement that built a strong middle class in the United States -- and that the GOP war on unions (on behalf of the giant corporations) is responsible for the continuing destruction of that middle class. Don't believe the anti-union rhetoric and propaganda. And don't believe "right to work" laws have anything to do with worker rights. They are just a rather sneaky way to weaken unions, and keep worker wages and benefits low -- further destroying our middle class and our economy.

And "right to work" laws are anti-democratic, in that they do not allow the majority to decide if they want to be a union shop.
ReplyDeleteWe have just been through this in our state. It was a heart-breaking loss to see "right to work" go through in a state which was a pioneer in unionism. I was there, I marched , I chanted, I made phone calls, and in the end we cannot beat the money of the corporate interests. I heard all the clichés: unions are corrupt, they drive business away, they have contributed to the supposed downfall of public education, and so on. I am just sick of people who think that their wages and benefits (if any) drop from the heavens due to the benevolence of employers.
