(The above caricature of Michele Bachmann was found on the website Ain't No God.)
As you probably know by now, Minnesota has passed a new law legalizing same-sex marriage -- becoming the 12th state (plus the District of Columbia) to do so. But while the intent of the new law is to grant equality to all Minnesota citizens, the law may actually have another very good effect. It could result in one of their most insane right-wing nut-jobs fleeing the state -- Michele Bachmann. Here is what Bachmann had to say when she learned the bill had a good chance of passing:
"The Bible is very clear on this issue. Homosexuality is a sin, and God will punish communities that support it."
"Sodom and Gomorrah thought they could defy the will of God - and we all know what happened to them. If the governor signs this legislation into law the Minneapolis-St. Paul region will be next."
"I have a friend from Eden Prairie who's already packed everything she owns into her car and is driving out to Montana as we speak. These are very scary times. I don't want my family to be the last ones out."
"I don't know what it will be, Bruce, it could be an earthquake. It could be a volcano. It could be some sort of flesh eating virus. All I know is that God does not let homosexuality go unpunished, and Minneapolis is next in line for his wrath."
"It breaks my heart to think that the Democrats are willing to play politics with the lives of so many Minnesotans. And I hate to leave so many of my constituents behind, but I urge them - please, please - follow my example and get your loved ones to safety before it's too late."
"I've heard wonderful things about Eugene, and I think congressman DeFazio may be vulnerable to a challenge. They're the nicest people in the world out there, I'm sure we'd be welcomed with open arms."
I doubt that Rep. DeFazio is very worried. Oregon's 4th Congressional District is a swing district, but it is highly unlikely they would vote for anyone as far to the right-wing fringe as Bachmann. And unfortunately for Minnesota residents, I doubt the good people of Oregon have anything to worry about. Right-wingers are famous for failing to keep their wild promises. After all, Rush Limbaugh is still living in America (after saying he would flee to Costa Rica), and Ted Nugent is still alive and out of jail (although he said he would be dead or in jail if President Obama was re-elected). Bachmann was probably just lying -- she's good at that.
"The Bible is very clear on this issue. Homosexuality is a sin, and God will punish communities that support it."
ReplyDeleteThese Xtians are so silly (stupid really but it sounds harsh) The buyBull is THEIR book of rules and it tells THEM what to do. NOT everyone else. So you xtian?? Don't act gay! Otherwise they should shut up and mind their own business.
To show their ignorance, Sodom & Gomorrah where NOT destroyed because of gays, so much for their ability to read.
