Democracy And Capitalism Are Not The Same
Far too many people in this country weren't listening in class while in high school. They think that capitalism and democracy are the same thing -- or at least, that you can't have one without the other. neither is true. Democracy is a form of government, while capitalism is a kind of economic system. Capitalism can exist under any kind of government, from a democracy to a dictatorship. And so can a socialism or a communism (which are not the same thing at all). It is time we realized that the purpose of our democratic form of government is not to protect or promote any particular economic system. It is to make life better for the citizens the government is supposed to serve.
