I would venture to suggest that the number of people in the USA who rightly can claim to be suffering with poverty amounts to less than 0,01 of the population and most of them are to be found sleeping under fly-overs whilst cuddling their hooch bottles! They do need help but charities do it much better than government ever does.
And why, as a grown man, Ted, do you believe everything the government tells you?

Forget poverty. The fact is that a vast number of seniors are living better with Social Security than they would without it. They paid for it while working, now they are getting the benefit of it. The government paid nothing, repeat nothing, towards their SS benefits.
So, Mr. Duff, take your question about poverty and shove it. It is irrelevant.
