  1. And it is arrant, and arrogant, nonsense like claiming to be the "moral beacon for the rest of the world" that makes it clear that Carter was a total twerp (as even Americans realised fairly quickly), and that makes it extra hard for pro-Americans (like me) to be heard amongst the chorus of laughter, raspberries and boos which arise when such piffle is proclaimed.

  2. And yet it is the right-wingers in America that claim it to be a "moral beacon". Most progressives know this country's morality is deeply flawed.

  3. No, it's just that the two of you, Dems and Repubs, can never agree on what is moral and what is not - except, of course, the United States of America which is always and forever - "the moral beacon of the world"!

  4. I do not believe the U.S. is a "moral beacon". We have too much negative in our history -- genocide, slavery, segregation, discrimination against women & minorities & gays (none of which has been completely resolved), illegal wars, and religious bigotry, to name a few things. It is mainly the right-wing fundamentalists (who supported all of the above) who make the "moral beacon" claim.
