Why must it always be one way or the other for you? You know that wasn't what I meant. Why can't rising productivity be shared by everyone -- with owners getting a nice profit and workers getting a nice salary? Why are you so against economic fairness?
you know i thought that mr duff was someone who wanted to present his side of the issues in answer to the post made here in a responsible manner. today, with this post he has changed my mind completely. taking a totally obvious statement and twisting into something so obscure is the mark of a smart ass who only wants to be heard in they're attemp to gain attention. ted, i don't know why you put up with him other than the fact that hes comments do fall within your ground rules of acceptable comments. i noticed the other day someone referred to him as a troll and i thought at the time that this was a little unfair. i guess i was the one who was wrong. it seems as mr duff is here to do one thing, stir the pot in hopes to raise somebody else's anger as he attempts to twist the subject at hand and divert the conversation. the very definition of todays trolls!
that would be absurd. The key is worker earnings to productivity ratio. In a perfect world, this ratio would remain fairly constant: i.e., workers are rewarded for their productivity or penalized for the lack thereof. If a company grows and does very well in a given year, does it not make sense for it to reward its workers for a job well done? Why should ALL profit growth go towards the top? A lot of this country's problems could be solved if workers could share in the profits and reap some of what they've sown.
Our resident troll is amusing himself by "taking the piss out of" us Yanks. The expression refers to a British custom (that is also practiced in some other parts of the former Empire) that means to mock, tease, ridicule, degrade, or scoff at someone or something, He's not really interested in having a serious discussion and I'm sure he thinks that he is highly clever and amusing. The article that Gra*ma Banana indicated also explains the pathology. I admire Ted's patience and forbearance.
Because there's no such thing! Unless, of course, you can define the word 'fair' - from both sides of the deal!.
The same thing applies to prices, there is no such thing as a 'fair' price. Always and forever, the seller thinks the price is too low and the buyer thinks it is too high. However, in a freely operating market they come to a conclusion and money changes hands.
And that, in a nutshell, is why government interference telling one party or the other what is 'fair' never works for long!
No such thing as fairness? That's ridiculous, and you know it. That's just something capitalists say to defend their desire to keep it all for themselves, instead of sharing some productivity with workers. As for the definition of what is fair -- that should be determined through negotiations between the company and a strong union.
ANONYMOUS COMMENTS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED. And neither will racist, homophobic, or misogynistic comments. I do not mind if you disagree, but make your case in a decent manner.
Er, you mean that if profits sank to zero and workers earned half a $mill a week that would be good?
ReplyDeleteJest askin'!
