First Official Map Of Texas As A State

This picture is from Heritage Auctions. It is the first official map of Texas after it became a state in 1845. The map was made in 1849, which makes it 165 years old. The colored areas are the counties in the state at that time. Note that most of West and Northwest Texas are not colored -- because that was still largely unsettled territory (except for the Native Americans who lived there). The map, which measures 32 by 35 inches, was recently sold at auction for $149,000.
