Defining Our Species

  1. You really should check your sources, Ted. Those sanctimonious and hypocritical words come from a man who on public radio telephoned an elderly and unwell grandfather and left a series of lewd messages on his answerphone concerning his grand-daughter's sexual activities.

  2. What he says is true -- even if he did make a prank call.

  3. So Dave if we are to really judge the validity of a person's words by his actions, then everyone in xtiananity is a lying sack of manure and the xtian religion is built on bad acting aholes so it is truly a false religion. As all those preachers that have mistresses and diddle kids, makes everything they say false!!!
Well 99% of what religion says is BS but that's beside the point.

  4. I get it DD. You don't like Russell Brand. Big deal. That doesn't mean what he said was wrong. We do indeed define ourselves by our actions -- both as individuals and as a country. I do realize that's an uncomfortable fact for you right-wingers, because you want to take from the poor and give to the rich.

  5. I really can't be bothered to waste any more energy on the likes of Russell Brand whose return to total nonentity cannot come too quickly for me. However, I was intrigued by this little 'gem':

"you right-wingers [...] want to take from the poor and give to the rich."

You really do inhabit a different planet! Rich entrepreneurs do *not* want a nation full of paupers, they want a nation full of people with money to spare because then they will spend it on the entrepreneurs goods and services. Do you think Henry Ford would have become as rich as he did if the wealth in America had not been increasing. Do you not understand why the Soviet Union failed? Because the people in it were too poor to buy anything much more than a loaf of bread! And that is what the CP of China finally realised, that you need your people to be reasonably wealthy in order for them to support your economy.

Of course, it goes without saying that bar, say, 0.5% of your population, there are no "poor" people in America. By any global standard Americans have money coming out of their ears!

  6. Fuck your "global standard"! Saying there are no poor people in America is just dumb. Anyone who cannot provide food and shelter for themselves or their family is poor -- even if they might have more than some starving person in Africa. I thought you were smart enough to know that (even though you have some mean-spirited political ideas).

And if "rich entrepreneurs" don't want a nation of paupers, then they should stop supporting the GOP policies that are doing just that.

  7. Dave would hate the 'global standard' as if he wishes to use that then he better take a pay cut down to $1/hr or if retired then get nothing.

  8. Tell me, Ted, exactly how many people starved to death in the USA last year?

Words matter and there is a difference - life and death! - between being poor and being hard up.

  9. Are you completely insane? Are you now trying to say that no one who's not starving to death is poor? Do you really think Food Stamps and Food Pantries for the poor eliminate poverty? How can you be so hard-hearted?

  10. the number may not be exact, but according to the coalition for homeless, the number of homeless people who die on the streets of america is approximately 37,000 a year. not to worry though, we won't run out any time soon, the numbers of folks and families becoming homeless are replenished daily as companies close down their shops and move their operations overseas putting more on the streets.

whether you want to believe it or not, the poor exist in america. they also exist in britain. it is a real problem in developed countries and denying it does not make it go away.

  11. So your source for the number of people who starve to death in America is 37,000 a year according to the **coalition for the homeless** - so we can be certain their figures are absolutely accurate, no bias at all!

Now, perhaps you can tell me what percentage of the TOTAL population of the USA that amounts to?

Also, how many Americans die of over-eating - judging by some of the news reports I see from 'over there' where I often pay more attention to the people in the background most of your population are big fat jelly babies - and our population is going the same way.

Don't talk to me about "poor" people in America - go visit Africa, then you'll see REAL poverty!

  12. You are talking about the bias of other people, when you are so biased you can't even admit that the U.S. (and Great Britain) have people living in poverty? What a joke. You used to make some decent points (even though most of them were wrong), but now you're just getting ridiculous.
