More Americans Ready For National Legalization Of "Pot"

The ridiculous prohibition of marijuana is losing support among the American people. As the chart shows, 51% of Americans now support the national legalization and taxation of marijuana possession by those 21 years old and older, while only 39% say it should remain illegal. And this spans both genders, all races, all regions of the country, and all age groups (except for those 65 & older who are split on the matter).

Although not included on this chart, Republicans also oppose legalization by a 33% to 61% margin. They are alone though, since Independents support legalization by 52% to 33%, and Democrats by 63% to 30%.

I expect the 12 point margin in favor of legalization to continue to grow, as more people begin to see that the states that have legalized and taxed the gentle herb have been helped, not hurt, by their action. The government has been lying to Americans for decades about marijuana calling it a dangerous drug. It is not. It is the safest drug known to man -- and far safer than any of the legal drugs available to Americans.

It is time to end this silly prohibition of marijuana. And that should be done on a national level.

The chart above was made from information in a new YouGov Poll -- done between March 6th and 8th of a random national sample of 1,000 adults, with a 4 point margin of error.
