American Public Is Becoming More Liberal

The American public has become more liberal -- and conservatives have lost their plurality among that public (with moderates now holding the plurality at 38%). That's not the conclusion of a Democrat or a liberal. It is the assessment of Republican pollster Bill McInturff after examining numerous surveys between 2010 and 2015.

Back in 2010, the general public identified as 39% conservative and 22% liberal. It now identifies as 33% conservative and 26% liberal -- a drop of 6 points for conservatives, and a gain of 4 points for liberals.

The two groups that have shown the most change are women 18-49 (with a 10 point drop for conservatives and a 10 point gain for liberals) and youth 18-34 (who had a 6 point drop for conservatives and a 7 point gain for liberals). Both of those groups now have more liberals than conservatives.

For a long time the word liberal was demonized by right-wing propaganda. It seems that propaganda is not working too well with young people.
