Democrats Have Highest Opinion Of The Supreme Court
It wasn't too long ago that Democrats had a very poor opinion of the Supreme Court, while Republicans were generally happy with it. That was because of the Citizens United decision that allowed the rich and the corporations to put unlimited money (many times secretly) into election campaigns. The Republicans liked that (because they were the biggest recipients of that money), while the Democrats thought it allowed the rich too much control over who gets elected.
But a couple of decisions from this term of the Supreme Court has changed those opinions. The opinions were those that protected the subsidies granted through Obamacare, and gave same-sex couples the right to marry. Now about 50% of Democrats think the court is doing a good job, while only 26% of Republicans think so.
These results are from a recent Rasmussen Poll -- done on July 20th and 21st of a random national sample of 1,000 likely voters, with a 3 point margin of error.

You are right: it is all about what just happened. But the Supreme Court is terrible, regardless. The other day, I wrote about Nixon v United States. There is no doubt in my mind that if that case came before the Court today, Nixon would get at least 3 votes and might even win the case. It's horrible.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Republicans, I'm not sure they even think lowly now about the Court because of the cases. It's like the Merovingian in Matrix Reloaded: they hate the Court because they were told to. And once they are told to love the Court they will do that.
I seem to be in a bad mood tonight...
