FBI Violent Crime Statistics In Texas Cities

These charts were made using violent crime statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). They top chart shows the number of violent crimes in Texas cities during the first half of 2015 (January through June). It only includes cities with a population of at least 100,000 people.

You may notice that there are some Texas cities with at least a 100,000 population are left off of this chart -- Austin, Waco, and Midland come to mind. That's because they were not included in the FBI's chart on crime. I don't know why. It could be that they have not yet submitted the required data to the FBI.

If you don't live in Texas (and would like to know the statistics for your own state and city, you can go to this website.

That top chart could give the impression that the most dangerous cities in Texas are the largest ones -- Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Fort Worth. That is not necessarily so. That's why I included the bottom chart. It shows the percentage of violent crime per population. I got these figures by dividing the number of violent crimes (top chart) by the city's population. I believe this gives a better picture of just how dangerous each city is.

The 10 Most Dangerous Cities:
1.Odessa
2. Beaumont
3. Lubbock / Houston
5. Dallas
6. Corpus Christi / Amarillo
8. Abilene / San Antonio
10. Arlington / Fort Worth

Sadly, the city I live in (Amarillo) made the top ten -- tied with Corpus Christi for 6th place. It's seems to be a more dangerous place to live than either San Antonio or Fort Worth -- both much larger cities.

I also want to point out that these FBI statistics once again show the Republicans have been lying about our border cities. They want you to believe that the border is a dangerous place, and border cities have more violent crime than other cities. That is simply not true.

Three border cities are on the list -- Brownsville, El Paso, and Laredo. Note that at least 12 (a dozen) other cities are more dangerous than those border cities (see bottom chart).

  2. No. According to the TABC website, both Midland and Ector counties are now wet.
