Public Opinion Of The Major Political Parties

It looks like the American public is still not very happy with either of the two major political parties. But as in the recent past, they are less happy with the Republicans than the Democrats by a small margin. Only 31% have a favorable view of the Republican Party, while 39% have a favorable view of the Democratic Party -- while 56% have an unfavorable view of the Republicans, and 48% have an unfavorable view of the Democrats.

The same holds true for the congressional representatives of each party. About 36% have a favorable view of congressional Democrats, while only 27% have a favorable view of congressional Republicans. About 55% have an unfavorable view of congressional Republicans, while 48% have an unfavorable view of congressional Democrats.

These results are from the new YouGov Poll -- done between December 30th and January 6th of a random national sample of 2,000 adults, with a margin of error of 2.8 points.

  1. It would be interesting to see a poll of prominent business leaders. I suspect they are a bit happier with Congress than the ignored American people.

"Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence."
